Spotify Sued for $1.6 Billion

Spotify faces a $1.6 billion lawsuit, accused of using thousands of songs from artists including Tom Petty, The Doors, and Neil Young, without license and compensation to the music publisher. The suit, filed by Wixen Music Publishing of Los Angeles, claims, Spotify uses music ‘in many cases without obtaining and paying for the necessary licenses.’

Chris Cornell, 52, the frontman of Soundgarden and Audioslave, was found hanging in his hotel room early Thursday morning. His friends and family were shocked at the news, his wife telling media that he was not depressed and this was a sudden shock for her to learn. He was active on twitter just hours before his death, currently on tour, he was scheduled to perform in Columbus, Ohio, on Friday at the Rock on the Range festival.

Music Legend Tom Petty Dies at 66

Tom Petty, the lead singer of Heartbreakers died at age 66 late Monday evening. He was taken to the UCLA Medical Center after having found unconscious and in full cardiac arrest, but could not be revived. Petty and the Heartbreakers, created a wildly recognizable brand of heartland rock that made them a classic-radio staple for decades.

David Lewiston, a man whose recordings captured the souls of the indigenous music in the world died in Hawaii on Monday at 88. A friend stated that Lewiston passed due to complications in a series of strokes. A classically trained pianist, Lewiston was world renowned for his ear when it came to ethnic and indigenous music.
