Gas explosions outside of Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday left at least one person dead and injured others. Hundreds of people were evacuated due to ‘fires and explosions’ at dozens of properties. Between 60 and 80 fires broke out in Andover, North Andover, and Lawrence. The explosions may have been caused by issues with gas service.
New York City’s deadliest fire in at least 25 years broke out just before 7 p.m. Thursday, in an apartment building in the Bronx, killing 12 people, including an infant, and critically injuring four more. Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said the fire broke out on the first floor, and the cause was under investigation.
Yesterday, in Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur, a fire broke out inside a boys Islamic boarding school, killing 21 students and 2 teachers. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire and say the blaze could have been started by either a mosquito repellant coil or a short circuit.
Two men have been charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the fire at the Ghost Ship warehouse in Oakland, California. On Monday the two men Derick Almena, the leaseholder, and Max Harris, who assisted him in a supervisory role in the building, were arrested in connection to the fire in December. It was said that the two men “knowingly created a fire trap with inadequate means of escape, they then filled that area with human beings and are now facing the consequences of their actions.”
Several people have died and more than 50 people have been hospitalized after a massive fire ripped through a west London high-rise apartment block as residents slept on Tuesday night. Through the night, more than 250 firefighters battled the blaze at Grenfell Tower. London Mayor Sadiq Khan commented on the tragedy saying that a large number of Firefighters rescued many, but “a lot” of people were unaccounted for.
The Metropolitan police confirmed on Friday, that, the deadly blaze which killed 79 people, began from a fridge, this was the first confirmation released pertaining to the cause of the fire. According to the police, the fire was not started deliberately but are considering manslaughter charges in connection with the tragedy after materials taken from the building failed safety tests.
