Huge Search After Deadly Building Collapse in Miami

A huge rescue operation is underway in Miami-Dade County, Florida, after a 12-storey residential building partially collapsed, killing at least one person. Rescuers are combing the rubble, searching for any trapped survivors, and were seen pulling a boy out alive. Images from Surfside, north of Miami Beach, show a pile of debris on one side of the building. At least eight people have been injured.

UK Plays Down Crimean Naval Confrontation

A UK government minister said Thursday that Britain was prepared to sail naval vessels through disputed waters near Crimea again, a day after confrontation between a British warship and Russian forces in the Black Sea. Environment Secretary George Eustice disputed claims from Moscow that Russian warplanes dropped bombs and a patrol boat fired warning shots at a British destroyer it claims entered into its territorial waters in the Black Sea.

Former Saudi Officials to be Questioned About Alleged Links to 9/11 Attackers

Former Saudi officials will be questioned about their alleged links to the 9/11 attacks in court depositions this month by lawyers acting for families of the victims, who view it as a breakthrough in efforts to prove a link between Riyadh and the hijackers. The families are seeking to prove that Saudi nationals helped support two of the 9/11 hijackers and that support was coordinated by a diplomat in the Saudi embassy in Washington.

Dozens Reportedly Killed and Injured After Airstrike on Tigray Village

Dozens of people have been killed in Ethiopia’s Tigray region after an airstrike hit a busy market, according to witnesses. Health workers said soldiers have blocked medical teams from traveling to the scene after the village of Togoga was struck. It comes amid some of the fiercest fighting in the Tigray region since the conflict began in November, as Ethiopian forces supported by those from neighboring Eritrea pursue Tigray’s former leaders.

Software Mogul John McAfee Dies in Spain by Suicide

British-born U.S. technology entrepreneur John McAfee died on Wednesday by suicide in a Barcelona prison after the Spanish high court authorized his extradition to the United States on tax evasion charges, his lawyer told Reuters. McAfee had lived for years on the run from U.S. authorities, some of that time aboard a megayacht. He was indicted in Tennessee on tax evasion charges and was charged in a cryptocurrency fraud case in New York.
