Trump Hails Nigeria Twitter Ban

Former US president Donald Trump has praised Nigeria’s government for banning Twitter after it deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s post for breaching its rules. “Who are they to dictate good and evil, if they themselves are evil?” Mr Trump said in a statement. He urged other countries to ban Twitter and Facebook for not allowing “free and open speech”.

El Salvador Becomes First Country to Adopt Bitcoin as Legal Tender

El Salvador has become the first country to adopt bitcoin as legal tender. Lawmakers in the Central American country’s Congress voted by a “supermajority” in favor of the Bitcoin Law, receiving 62 out of 84 of the legislature’s vote. Prices can now be shown in bitcoin, tax contributions can be paid with the digital currency, and exchanges in bitcoin will not be subject to capital gains tax.

Richest 25 Americans Reportedly Paid ‘True Tax Rate’ of 3.4%

The 25 richest Americans, including Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffett and Elon Musk, paid a “true tax rate” of just 3.4% between 2014 and 2018, according to an investigation by ProPublica, despite their collective net worth rising by more than $400bn in the same period. It found that in 2007 Bezos, the founder of Amazon and already a billionaire, paid no federal taxes.

Fastly Explains what Took Down Major Websites Worldwide

US tech company Fastly has revealed that a software bug triggered a global internet outage which took several major websites offline on Tuesday. For around an hour, sites such as The New York Times, Evening Standard, Bloomberg and Le Monde, as well as self-proclaimed front page of the internet Reddit, shopping site eBay, and streaming platform Twitch, were all down.
