The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) unveiled updated guidelines on Tuesday detailing activities that vaccinated people can safely resume, including attending small outdoor gatherings without the need to wear a mask. The new “interim public health recommendations” detail a variety of situations in which individuals who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can forgo wearing a mask.

Biden to Push Trillions in Investment, Plead for Police Reform in Congress Speech

U.S. President Joe Biden plans to unveil a sweeping $1.8 trillion package for families and education in his first joint speech to Congress on Wednesday, as he stresses the need to invest to compete with China, the White House said. Biden will argue that the new package – which together with an earlier infrastructure and jobs plan totals around $4 trillion, rivaling the annual federal budget – is a once-in-a-generation investment vital to America’s future.

European Parliament Backs UK Trade Deal

The European Parliament has ratified the post-Brexit EU-UK trade deal – a key move to ensure that tariff-and quota-free trade continues. The Trade and Co-operation Agreement (TCA) has been operating provisionally since January. MEPs voted in favor by 660 votes to 5, while 32 abstained. The UK’s chief negotiator, Lord Frost, said the vote “brings certainty and allows us to focus on the future”.

Apple’s iPhone Privacy Clampdown Arrives After 7-Month Delay

Apple is following through on its pledge to crack down on Facebook and other snoopy apps that secretly shadow people on their iPhones in order to target more advertising at users. The new privacy feature, dubbed “App Tracking Transparency,” rolled out Monday as part of an update to the operating system powering the iPhone and iPad. Once the software update is installed apps will be required to ask and receive consent to track online activities.

Porsche Driver Jailed for 10 Months After Filming Dying Police Officers

A Porsche driver who filmed four police officers as they lay dying after a horrific crash has been jailed for 10 months. Richard Pusey pleaded guilty to a rare charge of outraging public decency and other offenses after filming the crash on the Eastern Freeway in the Australian city of Melbourne on 22 April last year. Pusey recorded two videos at the scene, a total of three minutes and eight seconds.
