Scientists Find New Organ in Throat

Scientists have discovered a new organ in the throat while carrying out research on prostate cancer. Previously experts thought there were only microscopic salivary glands inside the nasopharynx region behind the nose. But researchers at the Netherlands Cancer Institute discovered a new set of salivary glands around 1.5in in length. They named them the tubarial salivary glands due to their location over a piece of cartilage called the torus tubarius.

Trump Paid Nearly $200,000 in Taxes to China, Report Claims

Donald Trump maintains a bank account in China where he pursued licensing deals for years, according to a report that could undermine the president’s election campaign claim that he is tough on Beijing. Tax records reviewed by the New York Times showed a previously unreported bank account in China controlled by Trump International Hotels Management. The account paid $188,561 in taxes in China between 2013 and 2015.

Lagos Locked Down, Army Under Scrutiny After Protesters Fired On

Lagos was under a round-the-clock curfew on Wednesday enforced by police roadblocks, the day after witnesses reported soldiers had opened fire on protesters in Nigeria’s biggest city, in an incident a rights group said may have caused deaths. The Lagos state governor said 30 people were hurt in the shooting at a toll gate in the Lekki district, a focal point of nearly two weeks of nationwide protests against allegations of systematic police brutality.

Seven People Handed over to Judge in Probe on French Teacher’s Murder

Seven people, including two minors, were handed over to a judge overnight as part of an ongoing investigation into last week’s murder of French teacher Samuel Paty, an official from the anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office said. Paty was beheaded on Oct. 16 in broad daylight outside his school in a middle-class Paris suburb by an 18-year-old of Chechen origin. Police shot the attacker dead.

Berlin Mystery Attack Targets 70 Museum Artefacts

At least 70 artefacts were sprayed with an oily liquid on Berlin’s Museum Island, a Unesco world heritage site that is home to five famous museums. It is being described as one of the biggest attacks on art and antiquities in post-war German history, but it has taken more than two weeks to emerge. The attack took place on 3 October, the anniversary of German reunification.
