Coronavirus was Already in Italy by December

Italian scientists say sewage water from two cities contained coronavirus traces in December, long before the country’s first confirmed cases. The National Institute of Health (ISS) said water from Milan and Turin showed genetic virus traces on 18 December. It adds to evidence from other countries that the virus may have been circulating much earlier than thought.

Unnamed State Targeting Australia in Cyber Attack

Australia is under increasing cyber attack from a “sophisticated state-based cyber actor”, the country’s prime minister said. Scott Morrison would not name the state responsible, and he said he made the threat public to raise awareness. Mr Morrison added: “This is the actions of a state-based actor with significant capabilities. “There aren’t too many state-based actors who have those capabilities.”

Supreme Court Blocks Trump from Ending DACA

The Supreme Court on Thursday blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, an Obama-era program that protects hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought to the US as children from deportation. The opinion is the second time in a week when the Supreme Court — bolstered with two of President Donald Trump’s nominees — has ruled against the Trump administration.

China Releases 10 Indian Soldiers After Border Clash

China has freed 10 Indian soldiers seized in a high-altitude border clash in the Himalayas which left at least 20 Indian soldiers dead, media reports said on Friday. The release follows several rounds of talks between the two sides in a bid to ease tensions after the battle on Monday, in which scores of troops from the two sides fought with nail-studded batons and hurled rocks at each other.

‘Into the Wild’ Bus Removed from Alaska Trail for Safety Concerns

Alaska officials on Thursday airlifted from a remote trail outside Denali National Park the wrecked bus made famous by the 1996 book and 2007 movie “Into the Wild,” removing an object that drew hundreds of fans and sightseers. Too many people were putting themselves at risk trekking to the site where adventurer Christopher McCandless died of starvation in 1992, officials said.
