President Donald Trump has said federal coronavirus guidelines such as social distancing will be extended across the US until at least 30 April. He had previously suggested that they could be relaxed as early as Easter, which falls in mid-April. “The highest point of the death rate is likely to hit in two weeks,” Mr Trump said.

Oil Rig Closures Rising as Prices Hit 18-Year Lows

Global oil producers have begun shutting down their oil rigs on the largest scale in 35 years as the coronavirus continues to drive market prices to their lowest level since 2002. The shutdown of oil wells has already wiped out almost 1m barrels a day from global production, but the figure is expected to rise as producers run out of space to store their extra oil as the crisis continues.

Spain Surpasses China COVID-19 Cases as Deaths Rise to 7,340

Spain has become the third country to confirm more cases of coronavirus than China – as its number of deaths rose by 812 in a day to reach a total of 7,340. Confirmed COVID-19 cases have increased by 6,398 since Sunday to reach 85,195 in total, Spain’s health ministry said. The country has now joined the United States and Italy in having more coronavirus cases than China.

India Says No Plan to Extend Coronavirus Lockdown as Poor Struggle

India has no plans to extend a 21-day lockdown to slow the spread of the coronavirus, the government said on Monday, as it struggled to keep essential supplies flowing and prevent tens of thousands of out-of-work people fleeing to the countryside. Defying the lockdown, hundreds of thousands of workers who live on daily wages left big cities like Delhi and Mumbai on foot for their homes in the countryside.

Harry and Meghan Say they won’t Seek Security from U.S.

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, have no plans to seek security protection from the U.S. government, a spokesperson for the couple said Sunday. The acknowledgment came hours after President Donald Trump tweeted that he wouldn’t provide security for Harry and Meghan. People magazine reported last week that the couple had left Canada for Los Angeles.
