Boeing Whistleblower Raises Doubts over 787 Oxygen System

A Boeing whistleblower has claimed that passengers on its 787 Dreamliner could be left without oxygen if the cabin were to suffer a sudden decompression. John Barnett says tests suggest up to a quarter of the oxygen systems could be faulty and might not work when needed. Boeing denies his accusations and says all its aircraft are built to the highest levels of safety and quality.

Trump’s EU Envoy Admits Ukraine Quid Pro Quo in Updated Testimony

An ally of Donald Trump has changed his impeachment inquiry testimony to confirm that the US president offered Ukraine a quid pro quo to investigate a political rival. Gordon Sondland, the US ambassador to the European Union, said he had told a senior official in Ukraine that nearly $400m in military aid would probably be withheld until the country announced an investigation into corruption, including allegations concerning a gas company with ties to the former vice-president Joe Biden’s son Hunter.

11,000 Scientists Warn of ‘Untold Suffering’ Caused by Climate Change

More than 11,000 researchers from around the world on Tuesday issued a grim warning of the “untold suffering” that will be caused by climate change if humanity doesn’t change its ways. The group said that as scientists, they have the “moral obligation to tell it like it is.” The scientists, who come from over 150 countries, said the climate crisis is “closely linked to excessive consumption of the wealthy lifestyle.”

Condemning the ambush killings of an American family in Mexico, President Donald Trump spoke Tuesday with the leader of Mexico after offering to help “wage war” on the kinds of drugs cartels accused in the attack. In a conversation with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Trump “made clear that the United States condemns these senseless acts of violence that took the lives of nine American citizens and offered Mexico assistance to ensure the perpetrators face justice.”
