Trump Says he Discussed Biden in Call with Ukrainian President

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he discussed Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden and his son in a call with Ukraine’s president, Zelensky. Trump’s call with Zelensky has been at the center of an escalating battle in Washington since Friday, when news outlets reported that Trump repeatedly asked the Ukrainian leader to investigate whether Biden, the Democratic front-runner to take on Trump in next year’s election, misused his position when he was vice president.

Iran to Present Plan for Gulf Security at U.N. this Week

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will present a plan for creating security in the Gulf in cooperation with other countries in the region when he attends the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. Countries must Triple Climate Emission Cut Targets to Limit Global Heating to 2C

An assessment backed by the world’s major climate science bodies has found commitments to cut greenhouse gas emissions must be at least tripled and increased by up to fivefold if the world is to meet the goals of the 2015 Paris climate agreement. The report, launched as leaders gather at a UN climate action summit in New York on Monday, says current plans would lead to a rise in average global temperatures of between 2.9C and 3.4C by 2100.

Rio Violence: Protests as Girl, Eight, ‘Killed by Police’

Protests have erupted in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro after an eight-year-old girl was allegedly killed by police, as the number of victims in operations by security forces continues to rise. Ágatha Vitória Sales Félix was with her mother in a van when she was shot in the back in a poor area on Friday. A record 1,249 people have died in such raids in Rio from January to August.

Emmy Awards 2019: Fleabag and Game of Thrones Among Major Winners

Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Killing Eve star Jodie Comer were among the big British winners at this year’s Emmy Awards. The ceremony, which recognizes excellence in television, took place in Los Angeles on Sunday. Game of Thrones won the night’s most prestigious prize – best drama – despite the eighth and final series receiving a mixed response from fans and critics.
