25 Dead After Fiery Attack on Mexican Bar

An attack on a bar in Mexico’s Gulf coast city of Coatzacoalcos killed 25 people and injured about a dozen, officials said Wednesday, and they said it was apparently overseen by a man who had been recently arrested but released. “The criminals went in, closed the doors, the emergency exits, and set fire to the place,” President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said at his daily morning news conference.

Queen Approves Boris Johnson Request to Suspend Parliament

The Queen approved an order from the prime minister for parliament to be “prorogued” from the second week in September until 14 October – just 17 days before the scheduled date of Brexit on Halloween. Opponents of a no-deal Brexit have accused Boris Johnson of a “coup” against parliament, after it was announced that both the Commons and Lords will be suspended for more than a month in the run-up to the date of EU withdrawal.

Activist Greta Thunberg Reaches New York After Sailing Across the Atlantic

Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg arrived in New York City on Wednesday after traveling across the Atlantic Ocean in a zero-emission yacht. She is attending several events in the city next month, including the U.N. General Assembly, U.N. Youth Summit on Climate and the Climate Action Summit. She stepped foot on land just after 4 p.m. and the 16-year-old then addressed reporters.

Hurricane Dorian Grazes Puerto Rico

The eye of Dorian, a category one hurricane, has missed the main island of Puerto Rico. The US territory’s smaller islands, Vieques and Culetra, are being battered by heavy rain and high winds. Dorian is considerably less powerful than the hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico two years ago. It is expected to gather strength in the coming days, and is on course to reach the US states of Florida or Georgia by the weekend.
