Dhaka Fire in Apartments Used as Chemical Store Kills 80

At least 80 people have died after a massive fire engulfed apartment buildings that also housed chemical warehouses in the old city of Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka. Dozens of people were trapped in the buildings, unable to escape onto narrow streets clogged with traffic, as the highly-combustible stores of chemicals, body sprays and plastic granules erupted in flames. The fire ignited around 10.40pm on Wednesday night and burned until after sunrise, with heavy smoke still visible over the site early on Thursday.

Putin Vows to Target US with New Weapons if Washington Deploys Missiles to Europe

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Wednesday that Moscow will target the U.S. with its new hypersonic missiles if the Trump administration follows its scrapping of a key arms control agreement by deploying new intermediate-range missiles in Europe. The Trump administration announced in early February that it would withdraw from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty over what it said was Russian violation of the Cold War pact.

Trump Says IS Woman Barred from US Return

US President Donald Trump says a woman who left the US to become a propagandist for the Islamic State (IS) group will not be allowed to return. On Twitter, he said he had instructed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo “not to allow Hoda Muthana back into the country”. Mr Pompeo had earlier stated that the 24-year-old was not a US citizen and would not be admitted. However, her family and her lawyer maintain that she has US citizenship

Arrested Coast Guard Officer Allegedly Planned Attack ‘On a Scale Rarely Seen’

A 49-year-old Coast Guard lieutenant charged with stockpiling weapons and drugs is being described as a “domestic terrorist” who was planning “to murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country,” according to court documents filed in U.S. District Court in Maryland on Tuesday. Federal prosecutors say Christopher Paul Hasson, a self-described white nationalist living in Silver Spring, Md., was amassing firearms since at least 2017, while cultivating plans to launch a widespread attack on prominent Democratic lawmakers, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and several high-profile television anchors from MSNBC and CNN.

Samsung’s New Foldable Phone Costs $1,980

The Samsung Unpacked 2019 event in San Francisco kicked off Wednesday featuring the newest model of its flagship Galaxy S line and the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy Fold, a foldable smartphone that can turn into a tablet. The Galaxy Fold has a 4.6-inch display in phone mode and opens into a 7.3-inch display. The unique device also touts multiple batteries — one for each side of the fold — and six cameras.
