Top White House officials pushed a plan to share nuclear technology with Saudi Arabia, despite objections from career national security staff, according to a new congressional report. The report from the House oversight committee said that whistleblowers within the Trump administration have come forward to warn about the proposed nuclear power deal, which could violate the law. The Democratic-controlled committee has launched an investigation into the whistleblowers’ claims, its chairman, Maryland representative Elijah Cummings, said Tuesday.

Several Rescued After Avalanche Rumbles Across Swiss Ski Resort Slope

An afternoon avalanche swept up skiers as it swept across a slope at a popular Swiss Alps ski resort Tuesday, sparking a hurried search that rescued four people and extended into the night for others who might still be buried, authorities said. Nearly 250 rescue workers, medical team members, police officers and military personnel backed by eight helicopters and a dozen search dogs were deployed after the avalanche on Plaine Morte, a mountain in the town of Crans-Montana, officials said.

Thousands Take to Streets of France After Antisemitic Attacks

Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets in cities across France to protest against a recent rise in antisemitic attacks. It comes amid a rise in anti-Jewish attacks in France, which is home to the world’s largest Jewish population outside of Israel and the US. The government has warned antisemitism is “spreading like poison” in France, despite the trauma still felt after 78,000 French Jews were deported to death camps, aided by the French collaborationist Vichy government, during the Nazi occupation in the second world war.

Saudi Crown Prince Lauds Centuries-old Ties with India

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Wednesday said his visit to India will improve centuries-old ties, which he said are “in our DNA.” In brief remarks at the president’s palace where he was given a ceremonial welcome, the crown prince did not make any reference to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. He arrived in India on Tuesday night after visiting Pakistan, which New Delhi blames for a suicide bombing last week that killed at least 40 Indian soldiers in disputed Kashmir.

Shamima Begum: IS Teenager to Lose UK Citizenship

Shamima Begum, who joined the Islamic State group in Syria aged 15, is to lose her UK citizenship. Whitehall sources said it was possible to strip the 19-year-old of British nationality as she was eligible for citizenship of another country. Her family’s lawyer, Tasnime Akunjee, said they were “disappointed” with the decision and were considering “all legal avenues” to challenge it. She was found in a Syrian refugee camp last week after reportedly leaving Baghuz – IS’s last stronghold – and gave birth to a son at the weekend.
