Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Brussels to march in protest of a UN migration pact signed last week. The march was organized by Flemish right-wing parties who believe the pact will lead to an increase in migration. Police deployed water cannons and tear gas. Left-wing counter protests drew about 1,000 demonstrators.
After two months of political instability, Sri Lanka reinstated ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Sunday. Wickremesinghe takes on the post of Prime ministership for the fifth time. Sri Lanka plunged into uncertainty after the president abruptly fired Wickremesinghe, citing differences over policy-making, and brought in former president Mahinda Rajapaksa for the post in a surprise move in October.
A deal was made at the UN climate conference in Poland on Saturday to add fuel to the 2015 Paris Climate Accord and continue moving forward with plans to cut carbon emissions. With 25,000 delegates present the deal made clarified rules for nearly 200 countries to work on cutting greenhouse gas production.
Colin Kroll the co-founder and CEO of HQ Trivia and Vine was found dead in his New York City apartment at the age of 34. Police found Kroll’s body along with drug paraphernalia after being prompted to perform a wellness check by his girlfriend. Kroll’s cause of death has not yet been determined.
Brazilian celebrity faith healer Joao Teixeira de Faria known as ‘John of God’ turned himself into authorities on Sunday in Goias after being accused of sexually abusing more than 300 women. De Faria turned himself in after failing to comply with his initial arrest warrant deadline on Saturday. De Faria denies all allegations.
More than 40 people were injured in an explosion and fire at a restaurant in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo. While some reports suggest a gas blast the cause of the explosion has not been officially determined. The explosion and fire affected both dining and residential establishments. Emergency services continue to investigate the cause.
