Qatar Decides to Leave OPEC

Qatar, one of the oldest OPEC members announced on Monday it will leave the oil cartel in January after 60 years. Qatar’s minister of state for energy affairs said Qatar plans to ‘develop and increase its natural gas production.’ The energy minister claimed the move was not politically motivated but a ‘technical and strategic’ change.

Lion Air Considers Canceling Boeing Orders

Following the fatal October crash, Indonesian airline Lion Air is considering canceling all remaining orders for Boeing jets. Airline co-founder Rusdi Kirana believes the US aerospace company is attempting to deflect attention away from its recent design changes while blaming Lion Air for the crash. A Boeing spokesperson called Lion Air a ‘valued customer.’

Pope Francis Addresses Homosexuality Within the Clergy

During an interview about religious vocations for a new book Pope Francis commented that homosexuality within the clergy ‘worries’ him and is a ‘serious matter.’ The Pope described homosexuality as ‘fashionable’ and said the Church must be ‘demanding’ when choosing priesthood candidates. The Pope’s comments referred to women aiming to become nuns as well.

Mexican President Decides to Take Loss on Boeing

Recently sworn-in Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will sell the Boeing Co. 787 Dreamliner which transported his predecessor in a deal that will generate a multimillion-dollar loss. Mexico is likely to get $76 million less than it paid. The sale is an attempt by the president to move Mexico away from excess.

Netherlands Rejects Age Change Request

A Netherlands court rejected the request of 69-year-old Emile Ratelband to take 20 years off his official age on Monday. Ratelband argued changing his official age would improve his prospects in job searches and on Tinder. The court rejected the claim saying the change would result in ‘undesirable legal and societal implications.’

Tumblr Bans Adult Content

Tumblr announced that all pornography will be banned from the platform in a move that will change the use of the social media site. Tumblr CEO Jeff D’Onofrio cited the platform’s responsibility to ‘different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets’ as an influence on the change. All adult content will be removed from December 17th.
