The ‘Camp Fire’ death toll rose to 48 on Tuesday as the remains of six more victims were found in Northern California. The fire has burned nearly 130,000 acres of land. Officials say the fire is 35% contained. Approximately 9,000 firefighters have been working to combat the deadliest wildfires in state history.
The worst surge of violence between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza since 2014 happened this week. It started with a botched Israeli raid into Gaza on Sunday which left seven Palestinians and one Israeli dead. Gaza militants fired over 460 rockets into Israel while Israel hit 160 military targets before Egypt brokered a ceasefire.
CNN filed a lawsuit against the White House following the suspension of CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta’s press credentials. The White House stripped Acosta of his ‘hard pass’ which allowed entry to White House events without daily access permission. CNN claims the move violates the network’s and Acosta’s constitutional rights.
The British prime minister’s office announced on Tuesday that a Brexit draft was reached by the UK and European Union. Approval of the agreement will require support by the UK Parliament and 27 remaining EU member states. The current agreement covers how the UK will leave the EU but does not address the continuing relationship.
Oil prices reached their lowest point in over eight months as fears of slowed demand persist. West Texas Intermediate, a measure of US oil prices, and international benchmark Brent dropped following a reduced forecast in global oil demand for next year by cartel Opec. On the other hand, natural gas futures reached their highest point in nearly four years.
In an effort to reduce teen use of electronic cigarettes, Juul Labs Inc. announced on Tuesday that it will pull popular flavors from retail stores. The announcement comes two months after teen vaping was declared an epidemic by federal regulators. The Food and Drug Administration is reportedly planning to propose further restrictions on e-cigarette sales.
