A report by the United Nations says that at least 6,000 bodies were found buried in 202 mass graves across Iraq by the Islamic State. Authorities believe there could be more than 12,000 people buried in the mass graves. The graves were discovered in areas of Iraq once controlled by the Islamic State.
While visiting the former Western Front in Verdun, French President Emmanuel Macron said Europeans cannot be protected without a ‘true, European army.’ Macron said the army is necessary to protect the continent against China, Russia, and the US. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has been supportive of a common defense capability.
A new report shows China massively increased security spending in the region of Xinjiang in 2017, raising concerns about alleged Muslim detainment camps. China claims additional security facilities are training centers. German academic Adrian Zenz who reviewed the report says patterns are consistent with ‘camps designed to imprison hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs with minimal due process.’
Microsoft founder Bill Gates made a plea for the safe disposal of human waste during a speech in China on Tuesday to kick of a three-day ‘Reinvented Toilet’ expo. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has spent seven years and $200 million on researching the topic. Twenty new products are on display at the expo.
A former SS guard accused of complicity in mass murder at a Nazi concentration camp during World War II has gone on trial in Germany. The 94-year-old ex-guard Johann Rehbogen is being tried in a juvenile court as he was under the age of 21 at the time of the alleged crimes.
