Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir called ‘the murder’ of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi a ‘tremendous mistake’ which was the result of a ‘rogue operation.’ Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to reveal all ‘details’ of the case on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia said Khashoggi’s death is being investigated and those responsible will be held accountable.
Following President Trump’s announcement on Saturday of plans to leave the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF), the US faces criticism from Russian officials. US National Security Adviser John Bolton will begin two days of talks in Moscow on Monday following the announcement. Trump claims that ‘Russia has violated the agreement.’ Russia denies such claims.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison issued a national apology to the victims of child sexual abuse throughout the country on Monday. The apology comes after a five-year investigation by the Royal Commission which uncovered that tens of thousands of children had suffered sexual abuse in institutions including churches, schools, and sports clubs over the years.
At least 18 people were killed on Sunday in Taiwan’s deadliest rail accident since 1981. The train was carrying more than 360 passengers and over 170 people were injured in the accident. Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen met with victims’ relatives on Monday to offer consolation. No official cause of the accident has been determined.
A migrant caravan continued its journey North on Sunday after being halted in a confrontation with Mexican police. The caravan carrying Honduran migrants aims to reach the United States. The migrant caravan includes nearly 5,000 people. Mexican authorities began allowing a small number of migrants to proceed to refugee camps on Friday.
A lioness killed the father of her 3 cubs at the Indianapolis Zoo after living together for eight years. The 10-year old male died of suffocation from injuries to the neck. There were no previous incidents of aggression between the two lions. The Indianapolis Zoo has no plans to change their management of the lions.
