Kavanaugh’s confirmation despite sexual misconduct allegations sparked a conversation about class, gender, and privilege in the US. Kavanaugh was sworn in by Court by Chief Justice John Roberts and retired Justice Anthony Kennedy.

20 Killed in New York Limo Crash

In the nation’s deadliest transportation accident since 2009, 20 people were killed in a limousine crash in upstate New York on Saturday. All 18 limo passengers including the driver were killed in addition to two pedestrians. Officials claim the limousine failed to stop at a dangerous intersection while on the way to a birthday celebration.

Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi Vanished

Days after he vanished visiting the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkish authorities claim that well-known Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed in the consulate. Khashoggi was a critic of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the disappearance ‘very, very upsetting.’ Khashoggi has not been seen since Tuesday.

Far-Right Candidate Wins First Round of Brazil Elections

Far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro won the first round of Brazil’s presidential election on Sunday with 46% of the vote. He needed 50% of the vote for an outright win. Bolsonaro will face left-wing Workers’ Party Candidate Fernando Haddad in the second round of elections on October 28th. Bolsonaro in Brazil has been compared to President Trump.

Missing Interpol President Resigns During Detainment

China’s Communist Party announced on Sunday that the missing president of Interpol Meng Hongwei was ‘under the supervision’ of an anti-corruption watchdog because he was under investigation on ‘suspicion of violating the law.’ Interpol claimed it received Meng’s resignation ‘with immediate effect’ just a few hours after the announcement. No resignation explanation was provided.

North Korea Cooperates & Indonesian Tsunami Search Ends

After a Sunday meeting Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un agreed to allow inspectors into a key nuclear testing site which the North claims was destroyed. Indonesian officials announced that the search for people missing from last month’s Tsunami will end on Thursday. Almost 700 people are still missing.

Banksy Piece Self-Destructs After Being Sold

One of the most recognizable pieces by English street artist Banksy ‘Girl With Balloon’ demolished itself after being sold at an auction for nearly $1.4 million. Shortly after the sale, the piece passed through its frame and was shredded. The auction house commented on the stunt, saying ‘It appears we just got Banksy-ed.’
