Formal investigation into Facebook’s involvement in mishandling user information is being opened by the Federal Trade Commission, with American and European politicians calling on Mark Zuckerberg to testify. The FTC investigation comes from the fallout of Cambridge Analytica’s controversial Trump campaign data access tactics and has caused Facebook’s value to be cut by $50 billion.

The world’s last male northern white rhino, Sudan, was euthanized in Kenya this week at age 45 following a string of infections and aging issues. Sudan’s death brings the species closer to extinction with just two northern white rhinos remaining, Sudan’s daughter and granddaughter. Rhino populations have been decimated because of war, poaching and habitat loss.
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was brought in for questioning about whether illegal funds were received for his 2007 election campaign from the Libyan regime of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi. This is the first time Sarkozy, who denies wrongdoing, has been questioned in the case opened in 2013. Sarkozy can be legally detained for 48 hours.
A 24 year old suspect in a wave of bombing attacks in Austin killed himself inside his car with an explosive device early Wednesday as SWAT team moved in. In his fifth and last explosion this month, a bomb, set for Austin delivery, detonated at a FedEx facility outside of San Antonio on Tuesday. Since the bombings started on March 2, the bombings killed two people and left the Texas capital terrorized with fear for 19 days.
A Maryland SWAT-trained school deputy confronted a high school student who opened fire at Great Mills High School, striking two students. Austin Wyatt Rollins the 17-year old shooter was fatally wounded in the confrontation with Deputy Blaine Gaskill, both fired shots. This week’s shooting and Gaskill’s actions occurred amid a national debate over arming teachers.
